We are happy to present the Training Guidelines developed within the project “Building Bridges – basketball for people with intellectual disabilities”. This output represents an important step toward creating more inclusive sport environments and supporting equal participation for people with intellectual disabilities.
The Guidelines were created through a strong collaboration between partners from Spain, Serbia, Romania, and Cyprus. By combining expertise from sport professionals, educators, and organizations working directly with people with intellectual disabilities, the project developed a practical and easy-to-use resource for those working in the field.
This publication offers a comprehensive approach to inclusive basketball and sport in general. It includes key topics such as understanding intellectual disabilities, inclusive coaching techniques, adapted basketball training sessions, safety considerations, social integration, and methods for assessment and evaluation. The Guidelines are designed to support coaches, teachers, and organizations in delivering high-quality and inclusive sport activities.
The document is available in English, Spanish, Serbian, Romanian, and Greek, ensuring accessibility for a wide range of users across Europe. It is published in digital format and can be used as a practical tool for everyday work with participants of different abilities.
Through this output, the project aims to promote inclusion not only in participation but also in the way sport programs are designed and delivered. We invite all stakeholders, professionals, and organizations to explore the Guidelines and join us in building more inclusive sport communities.
Barcel’hona Sports Events from Spain, together with its partners Club for Youth Empowerment 018 (KOM 018) from Serbia, Asociaţia Ludoku from Romania and Dikaioma Elpidas from Cyprus implements project “Building Bridges – basketball for people with intellectual disabilities” to promote inclusion in and through sports of some of the most vulnerable groups. This initiative tends to develop new tools and methods in basketball for people with intellectual disabilities, promote equal participation in sport and promote healthy lifestyles of all. With activities in Spain, Cyprus, Romania and Serbia, project “Building Bridges 2.0” will be implemented from October 2025 to September 2026. Project is co-financed by European Union.
